Spider

harmless.

Description[]

Tarantulas comprise a group of often hairy and very large arachnids belonging to the Theraphosidae family of spiders, of which approximately 900 species have been identified. This article only describes members of Theraphosidae, although some other members of the same suborder are commonly referred to as "tarantulas". Most species of tarantulas are not dangerous to humans, and some species have become popular in the exotic pet trade.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood[]

The tarantulas are much smaller than their deadlier counterparts and will not harm the player in any way. They serve no purpose other than a generic NPC.

Call of Juarez[]

In 1884, Billy Candle located the caverns that held the legendary Gold of Juarez . During his passage through the caverns he was attacked on a few occasions by large tarantulas. He was able to keep them at bay and later found the Gold he was searching for.

Combat tips[]

Tarantulas are fast moving and incredible jumpers. They will swarm the player quickly. The only weapon available is the whip, however they can also be killed by jumping on them.

Trivia[]

  • The tarantulas in the games are fictional, although they bear a strong resemblance to the species Poecilotheria rajaei. This is strange as this speacies was only described as recently as 2012, and is a native of India and Sri Lanka.
  • In the PC version of Bound in Blood, the tarantulas can be shot and killed. In console versions they cannot.
  • It seems that the tarantulas were originally going to be enemies in Bound in Blood as a few custom maps (Mainly Call of Parody) has tarantulas as enemies. It would seem the game still contains the files needed to make them NPCs.
  • Tarantulas in the game have green blood. (This can also be seen in Bound in Blood through modding).
