Dances with Renegades is the only chapter in Episode 5 in Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. Feeling stressed by Silas Greaves's stories, Ben tries to divert the topic and asked Silas to tell something about the Indians. Silas then recounts one of his adventures to hunt down Grey Wolf, an Apache chief. It happened "so long ago" that Silas cannot even remember the exact date.

Plot summary[]

Knowing the tragic backstory of the Indian chief, Silas was reluctant to take the job from the start. Nevertheless, he took it for the sake of money.

Trekked through the Apache territory, he was ambushed in a valley. After fighting his way through he went into the Indians' massive cave hideout, in which he spotted Grey Wolf in a grotto. Silas believed Grey Wolf put a spell on him that caused him to hallucinate. In a vision, Silas relieved the Chief's memories of fending off waves of white intruders. Grey Wolf also tried to tell Silas that he was a great warrior but would "lose his soul" if he became too indulged with the idea of revenge.

As Silas recovered from his daydream, more Grey Wolf's men ambushed him but was repelled. Silas chased Grey Wolf all the way to the outside in an attempt to apprehend the latter, partly to ask for more on the riddle-like "advice", but the Indian chief seemingly transformed into a wolf and disappeared without trace.

As a result, Silas failed to collect his bounty.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only chapter/episode without a Boss Battle of any form.
  • As it turned out, Grey Wolf's advice could have become Silas' motivation to choose so-called "redemption" that is to spare his lifetime nemesis in Finale.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The name of the chapter is likely a nod to 1990 movie Dances with Wolves, which is also about White-Indian relations.
