The SPAS-12 is a dual-mode shotgun. This means that the SPAS-12 can be fired semi-automatically or in pump-action. To switch between firing modes, the operator pushes a button under the foregrip, and moves the slide backwards or forwards until it clicks in position. The SPAS-12 was originally meant as a semi-automatic weapon, and the pump-action mode for non-lethal ordnance. The SPAS-12 had a butt hook for folding stock variants, these hooks could be swilved 90 degrees, and were placed under the operators arm, allowing them to fire the weapon one handed. However, the SPAS-12 was cumbersome, and this was nearly impossible to accomplish with an average user.
Call of Juarez: The CartelEdit
The AS-12 is fired pump-action only and portrayed without the folding stock. Ben McCall canonically wields one through the early to mid portion of the game. Eddie Guerra also wielded an AS-12 (his was portrayed with the folding stock unfolded) while apprehending Jesús Mendoza. He is never seen using it again afterwords. The AS-12 holds 9 rounds (in real life the SPAS-12 holds 8+1 rounds). The AS-12 is the Mendoza Cartel's preferred shotgun, and uses it in the later part of the game along with the M4. LAPD SWAT are also armed with AS-12s during the arrests of Eddie Guerra and Kim Evans. This is the only time they are ever seen using it. It is unlocked by achieving level 18 in the Secret Agenda.
